About your tutor
Roy Courtnall Summerfield has worked with fine wooden items for over thirty years, as a musical instrument maker and antique furniture restorer. His original training was in Fine Art (Sculpture) for which he obtained a BA (hons) degree from Goldsmiths College University of London and he is a qualified teacher with a Cert Ed. in Craft, Design & Technology.
In 1994 he was commissioned to write the syllabus and set up the course in Classical Guitar Making at the Newark School of Violin & Guitar Making, which continues to attract students from all over the world. Roy also continues to teach guitar making on a one-to-one basis from his own workshop.
He is the author of two books; Making Master Guitars and The Art of Violin Making.
